Brief History
The Center for Environment, Natural Resources, and Sustainability (CENS) Africa, founded over a
decade ago, emerged from the visionary leadership of Clement Abaidoo, an educator with a passion
for environmental advocacy. In [year], inspired by a BBC radio broadcast highlighting an
environmental challenge in Bangladesh, Clement shifted his research focus from "Microfinancing
and Poverty Reduction" to "Exploring Young People's Understanding and Responses to Climate
Change." This transformation marked the inception of the organization initially known as the
"Africa Center for Environment and Action (ACE Action)." Operating from the University of Cape
Coast, ACE Action engaged in diverse environmental initiatives, collaborating with NGOs, local
communities, media stations, and educational institutions.
Despite facing challenges inherent to student-led organizations, such as funding constraints and
member departures, ACE Action persevered until a temporary slowdown in activities during
2019-2020 due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, to reinvigorate and expand its impact
beyond the local level, ACE Action was reformed and rebranded as CENS Africa. Today, under the
leadership of Clement Abaidoo and Esther Owusu, CENS Africa is dedicated to empowering
environmental sustainability across Africa. The organization's history reflects resilience,
commitment, and a continuous journey towards creating a greener, more sustainable future. Join
us in making a lasting impact on the world we share.
